KC Heroes

A Multiversal Superhero Campaign

"Every universe has a Kansas City. And every Kansas City needs heroes."

Campaign Overview

KC Heroes is a long-running superhero campaign where the player characters travel between alternate versions of Kansas City across the multiverse. Each universe has its own rules of physics, magic, and morality. The players’ identities remain constant, but the world around them shifts with each jump.

This campaign explores:

  • Alternate realities, timelines, and identities
  • Technology vs mysticism as sources of power
  • Heroism across different political, cultural, and moral systems
  • A Kansas City that persists in every universe—sometimes familiar, sometimes alien
  • The high cost of power, trust, and intervention

The campaign uses the Index Card RPG (ICRPG) with several house rules.

Universe Guide

Universe 24 (U24) – The Prime Universe

This is the origin point for the heroes—modern-day Kansas City.

  • The world is similar to our own, but with hidden layers of super-powered activity
  • The characters operated independently until various threats pulled them together
  • The U24 versions of the PCs are the "true selves" in terms of memory and motivation

Universe 1 (U1) – The Broken Machine

This was the first alternate universe the heroes visited.

  • The PCs found themselves hunted by corrupted versions of familiar people
  • A vast machine (or system) was failing, creating dangerous rifts in time and space
  • Morality was distorted, and survival often required compromise

Universe 45 (U45) – The 1940s Timeline

The heroes have been pulled into Universe 45, a divergent post-war timeline where the Axis powers launched incursions into the U.S., and Kansas City is a hotbed of political and supernatural intrigue.

  • The year is 1949, but World War II never fully ended
  • Super-powered operatives from Germany and Japan are searching for Fallout (Dr. Eleanor Radcliffe) and her nuclear knowledge
  • Tom Pendergast and Al Capone have joined forces to build political and military power
  • The heroes’ U24 minds inhabit their U45 counterparts
